Dipa Karmakar becomes first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for Olympics

On Monday, Dipa Karmakar created history by becoming the FIRST Indian woman Gymnast to qualify for Rio Olympics.

As a kid she was afraid of falling down so her father encouraged her to take up gymnastics. And as its said, once you conquer the fear, the worlds your oyster. With intense focus, grit and determination she not only conquered her fears but now going to give the worlds best gymnast a tough competition in Rio Olympics.

A gymnast has to compete in 4 categories – Vault, Uneven Bars, Beam and Floor exercises.

She catapulted to the top spot among 14 competitors by performing Produnova to near perfection by scoring 15.066 points. Produnova is considered to be a difficult move for woman gymnasts due to physical structure of women. Only 5 other women in the world can do it and Dipa is one of them. Isn’t that Incredible!.

However, in her next competing categories she scored low but nevertheless secured the berth at Rio Olympics.

In August 2016, we will get to see Dipa competing with the worlds best and hopefully will get India a medal too.

Hobbygiri, congratulates Dipa, her family and all others who have supported her.
