Tanisha Kashyap, a 14 year old Assamese girl to represent India at Wimbledon

Playing in Wimbledon itself is a huge dream for any tennis player and especially if you are just 14 year old its dream come true at a very young age. Tanisha Kashyap, a 14 year old girl from Assam will be representing India at Road to Wimbledon National Finals to be held on the grass of Wimbledon in August.

All India Tennis Association teamed up with HSBC and Wimbledon to host four qualifying events, concluded by a Masters competition. Top players from around the country competed in Indore, Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai, with the final event in Kolkata. Assam’s Tanisha, who is currently ranked number one in the country since the start of this year, continued her fine form by winning the Masters title against Maharashtra’s Sharanya Gaware in the final.


“I am more than delighted to represent my country. It is a dream come true. I will give it my best to shine for my country in Wimbledon” said Tanisha.

The young tennis sensation also dominated over the Girls’ Doubles competition in January, coming out as the victor with teammate Prerna Vichare. Tanisha who is from Hajo of Kamrup district in Assam has been coached in Delhi by Vivek Shoken and Vishal Uppal, both of whom used to compete professionally, even playing in the Davis Cup.
